    Re shitty installations, As a present I bought my son some 6x9 Alpine Type R speakers with installation. The company was let's say JP low-fi (not their real name). The crappy OEM rear speakers already had a really good amp connected to them but they were clicking when turned up a bit meaning the voice coils were rooted hence my present. Also factory speakers with a good amp is not ideal anyway, it was just that way when he bought the car as they'd put the originals back in to sell - unsure why the amp remained however. I just wanted him to drive in and drive out. No big deal right? All the installer had to do was mount the 6x9 speakers in place of the OEM 6x9 speakers (no mod to the parcel shelf required) and re use 2x very short high quality heavy gauge low oxygen copper wires to the speakers already in place and connected to the amp which was between the speakers. Even those short speaker wires had soldered eye terminals with heat shrink at the amp end but were soldered directly to the OEM 6x9s at the speaker end. A low level input RCA cable from the head unit to the amp was already in place and being used. So, the installer got rid of those beautiful short fat wires running less than 30cm ea, reconnected the standard speaker wires from the OEM harness with adapters for the Type Rs from the vehicle harness, disassembled the dash, found the disused OEM radio plug in the harness, inserted dodgy unsoldered spade connectors (presumably after testing them with a multi meter for left & right and correct phasing) and ran new low quality wire all the way back to the amp in the boot under the carpet, removing the back seat and centre console in the process. In short he probably spent 3 hours doing an atrocious job, when he could've spent 45 minutes doing a very simple job. Some people are so stupid it is utterly beyond belief. I paid $160 for that on top of the price of the speakers. Where do these idiots actually come from FFS?

      You'd have to pull the unit out and check the wiring at the plug to confirm you don't have power there then probably trace it back from the plug. I know this was 3 years ago but i'm concerned about the sub box you made. That was a very small amount of space for a sealed 10" sub box. How does it sound for being so small. I am guessing that the enclosure is not to the specs of the Sub? Looks awesome though! I'd love to install an 8" sub in that location of my 21 Forester but there just isn't enough room in cubic feet for that area.

    • @D2iAuto
      @D2iAuto 9 месяцев назад

      This enclosure was by no means optimal It was just to add some bass not an ideal enclosure size it wasn't far off what the sub wanted but yes it was all about space and getting some output rather than being optimal. It did its Jo for what was Intended just a bit of bass but not something I would recommend for someone wanting lots of output or an sq system but for the budget and what he wanted it suited the job

    Great vid mate, you helped me heaps, so many thanks. Just finished setting mine up on an ‘05 SX Ghia….. I hit a couple of snags though, the transceiver fob on mine had 2 leads but only one socket available on the BCM, not sure why but the one lead is working, alarm is too 🤷‍♂️ (Aerpro’s answer to this was basically a ’suck it & see’ response, they hadn’t heard of it before.) Also, my SWC’s aren’t working….. Aerpro loom had a 3.5mm plug & three female end leads, guy at Aerpro said only the plug was needed but i’m thinking the 3 other leads will need to be spliced in somewhere but got no idea where…. No biggy really, I hardly use the SWC’s but would be handy since I’ve lost a volume knob to feel for now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated if you’re still keeping up with this vid mate…. Can chuck some $$ your way too, knowledge is gold as they say & i’m willing to pay for it….. only did the job myself because the local fitter has a 2 month waiting list & I’m about to do a lap of Oz. @D2iAuto 9 месяцев назад

      Hey. As for the transceiver, I have no idea sorry, as far as swc younonly need one or the other either the 3.5mm jack or the 3 key wires. Have to make sure the swc and head unit loom are connected before connecting the main power. I'm not familiar with all pioneer models but a lot of pipneers need to follow this step to work: turn car on on the head unit touch the screen where you go through the sources and drop down to source off once on source off but head unit still on then go to settings, I think system or one of those then steering wheel controls and click with adaptor then it should work. Also from memory the ba bf kit has dip switches on the back of the module that you have to switch I think pin 1 if using a pioneer unit so check that also its in the manual though if it's required. Hope this helps

Need new speakers & sub, my new HU has 4v pre out as well so I might ditch the factory amp for a decent power amp as well…. @riveralley that's fine keep it under 35 ideally but also make sure the port isn't too skinny, When you get into a skinny port you end up with a boundary layer so effective area drastically reduces that's why a round port is a better design typically or hex or square

      The box I have in the car now is like 5.22 cubes with 86 square inches of port. It did about a 144 at 28 from the trunk on about 2k and about a 146 at 30 with 5.5k. That box in Winisd from what I can recall is like in the high 30 to low 40 m/s. I was thinking that mu efficiency isn't great is because of port compression.

      Nothing I can suggest other than check plugs and then test wiring so check for ground (black) Accessory (red) and Constant (yellow) If anyone of those have nothing then it won't work so check connections and fuses. That's all I can advise without having the vehicle next would be take it to your local audio shop for diagnosis

    Absolutely beautiful work! Do you have any idea how low that sun extends in such a small enclosure? I’m sure the cabin gain helps. Im looking to do something similar. I’d love 20hz but physics laughs in my face! I’d be happy with mid 30hz extension I think. Have you ever designed an enclosure for the backseat floor? Could extend both passenger and driver side floor space with an active and passive radiator to get the most out of the enclosure size.

    Hi. I'm just curious how did you run the wire through gommet. I tried on my VF but didnt seem easy and didnt want to disrupt any other thing so just connected my amp directly to factory speaker wire. My speakers are only 40w rms. I assume factory wire can handle this much safely?

    • @D2iAuto
      @D2iAuto Год назад

      It will be fine to handle that. Getting wiring through the grommet on a VF is easier than a lot of other cars there is a decent amount of room compared to many other vehicles but yeah the factory wiring can handle it fine

    • @D2iAuto
      @D2iAuto Год назад

      You have to have the steering wheel control patch lead connected and also have it connected to head unit and can use adaptor before connecting it to the vehicle and power if its pioneer you'll have to turn steering wheel controls on in the settings with the source off. So there's a number of things it could be

    • @anthonyeldegel7538
      @anthonyeldegel7538 Год назад

      Do I need to buy a separate lead or will the wiring harness that came with the facia do the job. I've checked the pioneer unit I don't have an option to enable or disable steering wheel controls, by the way thanks for the quick reply.

    • @D2iAuto
      @D2iAuto Год назад

      @anthony eldegel I can't remember if it comes with the universal patch lead but if it has a universal patch lead (has a 3.5mm jack and gnd key1 and key 2) then you don't need anything else. Disconnect the facia and head unit for at least 30 mins, make sure all the connections on head unit are connected first and the steering wheel control harness is connected etc. Then connect the facia to the vehicle last. Most pioneer units (not all) will require you to tell the steering wheel controls to be either an adaptor or oem control. Depending on the head unit you may need to turn the source off so the unit is on and source is off. Have handbrake on (assuming park brake wire is connected or otherwise the green wire grounded) then go to settings and set steering wheel controls to with adaptor and then they should work. If you go to settings and find steering wheel controls greyed out then make sure handbrake is on or as stated need to have the source off which is usually the arrow down at the top of pioneer units and select source off

    • @anthonyeldegel7538
      @anthonyeldegel7538 Год назад

      Right so the steering wheel controls work I wired them up but I can't get the after market ac control to communicate with my pioneer unit they work, I can control the ac fans traction control etc but they don't show up on the unit.

    • @D2iAuto

      @@anthonyeldegel7538 you need to wire the reverse trigger from the head unit to the output from the canbus module and then run the rca output from the canbus module to the input of the reverse camera

    who puts vy mirrors on a vx? not suited at all. they vy mirrors suit a more flat looking shape like the vy/vz. terrible condition car, inside and out those exhaust dump pipes just make it noisier. cheap looking simmons wheels which are open spoke which show those pov garden variety single/twin piston brakes. if your going to have open spoke wheels at least have a set of 4 piston brembo or AP Racing calipers behind there. The bags work well. should also have done the front.
